Looking Back

Beyond Shelter: Honoring Andrew Marquis

On May 21, 200 people gathered to celebrate Friends of Boston’s Homeless and what we have done, and what we do to support those experiencing homelessness in Boston for 39 years.

We are so grateful to our honoree, Andrew Marquis, the Weintraub family, our board, our sponsors, and everyone who attended, volunteered, and supported Friends. Thank you for helping make the afternoon such a success, raising over $125,000, helping us continue to increase our support and services for neighbors in need across our community.

A special thank you as well to our incredible keynote speakers — Dr. Jim O’Connell of BHCHP, Chief Sheila Dillon of the Mayor’s Office of Housing, and Lisa DeBarros, Valentine House alumna and current Case Manager, Assistant Coordinator for Behavioral Health at Woods Mullen Shelter.

If you were unable to attend, or would like to revisit the afternoon, visit our YouTube channel to hear from our keynote speakers or view photos from the luncheon.

2026 10th Annual Winter Walk

Our first Winter Walk has come and gone and we were able to achieve our $10,000 team fundraising goal – thanks to you! We’re so honored to have walked alongside so many incredible organizations and individuals coming together in our shared goal to support our neighbors experiencing homelessness across Boston. Thank you to everyone who donated, fundraised, or walked with #TeamFOBH joining over 3,500 walkers and truly making every step count.

TD Garden’s 29th Annual Table of Friends

Thank you to everyone who came out to support  our annual Table of Friends Thanksgiving Event at TD Garden!   You may have heard about it on WBZ  Radio 1030, saw it on WHDH TV news, or read about it in The Boston Globe!  Our Founder, John Rosenthal, started this event over 30 years ago.  TD Garden continued the partnership with us and we are now celebrating our 29th year in partnership with them at this event, which serves 1,000 people experiencing homelessness in Boston each year.

By the numbers, TD Garden staff and kitchens prepare an incredible 800 lbs of turkey, 600 lbs of stuffing, 450 lbs of vegetables, 10 gallons of cranberry sauce, and a giant 501 lb pumpkin pie! Thank you to volunteers from TD Garden, TD Bank, Coca Cola, The Boston Bruins, The Boston Celtics, BPHC Homeless Services, Elected Officials such as Mayor Wu, City Council President Ruthzee Louijeune, City Councilor Sharon Durkan, MA First Partner Joanna Lydgate, MA State Treasurer Deb Goldberg, Chief of Housing for the City of Boston Sheila Dillon, and FOBH’s volunteers and friends from Petra Funds, Nutter, BU, our own Valentine House and others.
