Interested in Volunteering?
Volunteer opportunities are available at Woods Mullen Women’s Shelter, Southampton Men’s Shelter, The Quincy Street Kitchen, and our Community Supportive Housing Programs. Volunteers can help prepare, sponsor, or serve meals, host activities like bingo or socials, assist with clean-ups or planting projects, and more. The shelters love the help, and your companionship means a lot to shelter guests, bringing comfort, dignity, and connection to people experiencing homelessness, especially during the long winter months. If you have ideas or a particular activity you’d like to host while volunteering, we would love to hear them!
Groups or individuals looking for ways to get involved might include corporate groups, schools, community organizations, families, or friends.

Volunteers can sign up to join our organization as an individual or on behalf of a group. All volunteers will use their created account to view and sign up for all current or future opportunities. If you are expressing interest on behalf of a group, please fill out as much information as possible. Once reviewed, we will follow up over email to coordinate. If you are signing up as an individual, you will be able to view our current available opportunities and sign up for a specific shift.
Please note, in order to volunteer in person, you will need to complete a new Release and Waiver of Liability for Volunteers Form for each shift volunteered. After the first waiver is submitted, you can email subsequent forms to madisonmcneil@fobh.org.
PLEASE NOTE: For all in-person volunteer opportunities at Boston’s emergency shelters, children are not permitted in the shelters. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old, and anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. If you or your group includes individuals under 18, please specify, and we can work to coordinate a separate, non–guest-facing opportunity. Also note that group sizes may vary. We tend to keep groups small due to staff size, the number of guests, and to prevent disruption and ensure adequate spacing.
